Job Summary:
The Student Counselor is responsible for providing comprehensive counseling services to students within the educational setting. The primary objective is to support students' emotional, social, and academic growth, ensuring their overall well-being and success. The Student Counselor collaborates with teachers, parents, and other stakeholders to develop and implement effective strategies that address students' needs and promote a positive school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to address students' personal, social, and behavioral challenges.
2. Assist students in developing academic and career goals, and provide guidance on course selection and educational pathways.
3. Assess students' strengths, weaknesses, and interests to identify appropriate interventions and support services.
4. Facilitate crisis intervention and provide immediate assistance to students facing emotional distress or challenging situations.
5. Collaborate with teachers to develop strategies for students with learning difficulties or behavioral issues, promoting inclusive learning environments.
6. Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify students' needs and determine appropriate counseling interventions.
7. Maintain accurate and confidential records of students' counseling sessions, progress, and any relevant interventions.
8. Provide guidance to parents and guardians on effective parenting techniques, addressing students' behavioral concerns, and fostering positive home-school relationships.
9. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss students' progress, interventions, and support plans.
10. Collaborate with community organizations and external agencies to provide additional support and resources for students and families.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in School Counseling, Counseling Psychology, or related field.
2. State licensure or certification as a School Counselor (if applicable).
3. Proven experience in providing counseling services to students, preferably in an educational setting.
4. Sound knowledge of counseling theories, techniques, and evidence-based practices.
5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.
6. Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
7. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information regarding students and families.
8. Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards pertaining to school counseling.
9. Proficiency in using computer systems and counseling software to maintain accurate records.
10. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and staying informed about current trends in school counseling.
